Producing fibers, comprises providing a biogenic substance comprising at least one monomer, carrying out a polymer forming reaction to form a polymer from the monomer, in the form of a fiber, and converting the polymer into an inorganic substance. The polymer is applied with a mechanical load for further shaping of the fibers. An independent claim is also included for the fibers produced by the above method.
