PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for performing communication in a self-organized wireless network, in particular, a vehicular network based on the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol.SOLUTION: The network includes a plurality of network nodes each being equipped with a communication system. The communication systems generate periodic messages that are transmitted via a dedicated radio communication channel. Each of the communication systems employs a message interval and transmit power (interval power) for transmitting the periodic messages. A reliability threshold for a maximum allowable load of the communication channel is specified. Each of the network nodes sets such interval power as not to exceed the reliability threshold while taking into consideration information about network nodes in its surrounding. Each of the network nodes applies its established interval power relation and adjusts the transmit power and the message intervals of its outgoing periodic messages. |
