The system 200 comprises a heat pump 212, controller 240, tank, ideally a hot water tank 213 or a heating/cooling tank 214, plural valves 221-227, one or more pumps 216,217 and at least one heat exchange panel 210,211 which is preferably two solar panels mounted on north and south facing sides of a building roof. The hot water tank is for providing domestic hot water and the heating/cooling tank is for providing a fluid for central heating/cooling, ideally via radiators/under-floor 215. The controller operates the system in a number of different modes of operation including an active heating mode in which fluid is pumped from the at least one heat exchange panel to a first side 212a-b of the heat pump and fluid is pumped through the hot water tank and/or heating/cooling tank from a second side 212c-d of the heat pump, with transfer of heat energy by the heat pump from the first to second side. Ideally the system is operable in a passive heating mode, an enhanced passive heating mode, a passive store mode, an active cooling mode, and an active/passive snow clearing mode. The panel(s) ideally include two heat exchange elements 210a-b,211a-b. |
