PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that can process an image captured by an endoscope system to facilitate visual understanding of a desired portion in the image, and to provide an endoscope system. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes: a color image acquiring unit for acquiring an image captured with colors expressed by a combination of RGB three colors; a component designation unit for receiving a designation of a light wave-length component; and an emphasizing process unit for processing the image captured by the color image acquisition unit to emphasize or de-emphasize the wave-length component designated by the component section. The emphasizing process unit is configured to decompose the captured image into a plurality of spectral images, extract a designated wave-length spectral images having the wave-length component designated by the component designation unit, and emphasize or de-emphasize the designated spectral images, thereby generating, by integral treatment, a processed image in which each pixel is expressed by pixel values of RGB three colors.
