Method and device for casting a strand

The method involves providing a liquid metal (200) into an intermediate container (140) with a drain opening (130) for outflow of the liquid metal with a volume flow. The casting level of liquid metal provided into continuous casting mold (160) is detected. A width correction is calculated in response to determined volume flow control error from measured actual value. The calculated width correction is outputted in the form of manipulated variable to actuator (420) for adjusting narrow side (170) of continuous casting mold. The casting level height difference is determined from measured actual value, predetermined desired value and computed altitude change of casting level as input variable for controller for regulating casting level. The casting level height is changed by actuating closure element (120). An independent claim is included for a device for casting strand.
