A money item conveying member of a money item conveyor comprises a money item support section to support a primary money and a money item release section that acts to release one or more surplus money items from the conveying member. The conveying member is arranged to direct the surplus money item to the release section when the primary money item is in the support section. The support section preferably comprises an upstanding ledge or lip 12a which can support a single coin 14 on the conveying member 8 as the endless loop conveyor is moved. Excess or extra coins 15 on the conveying member are directed to a chamfered region 13a of the conveying member which cannot support the coins and they slide off the conveying member. A guide with an agitating region may also be used to remove surplus money items from the conveying member. Also disclosed is a money item ejecting surface arranged to direct a money item off a conveyor when the money item contacts the ejecting surface. Further disclosed is a money item sensor located near a conveyor in which the money item is partially moved off the conveyor in order to pass the sensor.
