PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a winding apparatus with which the meandering of a metal strip caused by a pinch roll is suppressed apprepriately with a relatively simple apparatus configuration. SOLUTION: In the winding apparatus which includes side guides 2, the pinch roll 3 and a coiler 4 in this order from the upstream side of the line, when defining the position of the most downstream side, where the metallic strip is restrained in the side guide 2, as (a), the position of the mid-point between the position (a) and the reducing point of the pinch roll as (b), the distance between the position (a) and the position (b) as L, and the position inside the side guide being away from the position (a) by the distance L on the upstream side as (c), a non-driven type press roll X which holds and restrains the metal strip between itself and the conveying roll 5 is provided as a means for preventing the out-of-plane deformation of the metal strip between the position (c) and the position (b). The meandering of the metal strip caused by the pinch roll is prevented by suppressing the out-of-plane deformation (lateral buckling) of the metal strip with the press roll X.
