The present invention relates to a flame proof UV-reactor (16) for treating liquids, such as ballast water, comprising a reactor house with reactor walls, an inlet pipe (14) and an outlet pipe (18) for the liquid to be treated, a number of UV-treatment units attached inside said reactor house comprising UV- generators (22) for providing UV-radiation in the interior of said reactor house. The present invention relates also to a system for treating liquids comprising the flame proof UV-reactor (16). Said each UV-treatment unit comprise also at least one UV-generator connection mean, preferably two UV-generator connection means, to withstand internal explosion pressure, wherein the UV- generator connection means comprise sockets and caps, and has flame-proof gaps (46, 48) to cool down the explosion before it reaches the athmosphere surrounding the reactor (16). Or there may be at least one check valve (54) arranged on the inlet pipe (14) for liquids to secure that the reactor (16) is filled with liquids to be treated, which liquid functions as a flame arrestor if an explosion occurs inside the reactor (16). |
