<p>An acoustic modem and method are presented. The method includes entering a training phase by a first modem and transmitting in parallel at least two acoustic messages on at least two different frequencies. A second modem enters a training phase and receives the at least two acoustic messages, measures a reception quality for each, and selects a subset of the at least two different frequencies for communication of data. The modems enter a communication phase and at least one of the modems transmits in parallel a first acoustic message having a first data on the first selected frequency, and a second acoustic message having a second data on the second selected frequency. The acoustic modem has a transceiver assembly having transmitter electronics, receiver electronics, and at least one programmable electronic device adapted to execute instructions to cause the acoustic modem to enter the training phase and the communication phase.</p> |
