The present invention provides a method to drive a liquid crystal of a half-V shape ferroelectric liquid crystal display device comprising: a power device outputting a voltage and set to a common voltage divided into a first voltage at which a liquid crystal molecule reacts, and a second voltage at which the liquid crystal molecule is oriented; a cell capacitor storing a voltage applied to drive a half-V shape ferroelectric liquid crystal; and a switch device driven by application of a gate voltage and consisting of a first connection unit to which a data voltage is applied and a second connection unit connected to a cell capacitor. The method to drive a liquid crystal of a half-V shape ferroelectric liquid crystal display device comprises the steps of: setting a ratio of a first voltage and a second voltage of a power device to 1.25:1 to 5:1; applying a data voltage in the range of the first voltage to a first connection unit of a switch device; applying the data voltage to a cell capacitor through the first connection unit and a second connection unit of the switch device by applying a gate voltage to a driving unit of the switch device; maintaining the data voltage applied to the cell capacitor by cutting off the gate voltage applied to the driving unit of the switch device; applying a second polarity voltage, which is less than 50% of the range of the voltage outputted from the power device, to the cell capacitor by applying the gate voltage to the driving unit of the switch device in a state whereby the data voltage is cut off; and equalizing a value of the cell capacitor to the common voltage by cutting off the gate voltage applied to the driving unit of the switch device. |
