Adjustable row cleaner

An adjustable row cleaner includes a row cleaner assembly that functions to clear material from the ground surface. The adjustable row cleaner includes, in one embodiment, a connector that is in mechanical communication with both a row cleaner frame, to which row cleaner wheels may be pivotally mounted, and a first end of a translator member. The translator member may pivot with respect to the row unit frame and/or row unit sub-frame about a translator member pivot. The position of a translator member second end may be manipulated, thereby adjusting the maximum depth to which the row cleaner wheels penetrate the ground surface. The adjustable row cleaner may be powered or manually adjusted, and the position of the row cleaner wheels may be monitored and automatically adjusted via a control system.

1. A method of adjusting the height of a row cleaner frame, wherein said row cleaner frame is pivotally mountable to a planter row unit, said method comprising the steps of:
a. pivotally mounting a row cleaner frame to a planter row unit about a first fulcrum adjacent a first end of said row cleaner frame, wherein said planter row unit has a first and a second end, with said first end for engagement of soil prior to said second end of said planter row unit; b. pivotally mounting a translator member to said planter row unit about a second fulcrum positioned between a first and second end of said translator member; c. engaging said first end of said translator member with said row cleaner frame, wherein at least one row cleaner wheel is pivotally mounted to said row cleaner frame to operate proximate said first end of said planter row unit; and, d. adjusting the vertical position of said row cleaner frame by manipulating the position of a second end of said translator member such that lowering said second end of said translator member causes said row cleaner frame to rise.
