Thermoplastic compositions including polyvinyl chloride, vinyl chloride-acetate copolymers, polyvinyl butyral, polystyrene, polymethyl methacrylate, butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymers, and cellulose ethers and esters are plasticized with monopropyl dixylylphosphates (see Group IV (b)), with or without other compounding agents. In examples, vinyl chloride acetate copolymer and cellulose acetate, propionate and ethyl ether are plasticized with the above plasticizer with lead carbonate and stearic acid in the first.ALSO:The invention comprises monopropyl dixylyl phosphates, which are obtainable by the action of xylenol or phosphorus oxychloride to give the dioxylyl monochlorphosphates, followed by reaction with a propyl alcohol, any contaminating by-products being separated by distillation &c. The preparation of mono-n-propyl dixylyl phosphates is described as above. The product is incorporated in thermoplastic compositions (see Group IV (a)).ALSO:Chlorinated rubber may be plasticized with monopropyl, especially n-propyl dixylylphosphates. |
