The system has a rigid sail segmented horizontally into sail segments (21), where progression of pivoting of all the segments is ensured by a double reduction/increase system of a sail surface. The sail segments rotates in a horizontal plane around an axis located in its medium (22) so as to provide a surface (23) when the segments are active or a section (24) when the segments are inactive. Each segment has a pair of pulleys, where one of the pulleys is traversed by a rotation axis of the segment and another pulley is positioned in bottom of the segment.
