The method involves defining, in a preliminary phase, operating parameters including wear factors for each of components to be monitored, and defining a component failure risk threshold value for each component. An invitation (12) to order the launching of a diagnostic test (11) of a health status of the components is delivered to a driver of a car at the time of a correspondence between the operation parameter and the failure risk threshold value during usage of the car. The test is executed after validation by the driver, to obtain information about the health status of the component. An independent claim is also included for a device for monitoring and diagnosing the condition of components of a car.
