ANTISTATIC ULTRA HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT POLYETHYLENE

White or near-white antistatic ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is obtained by consolidating a mixture of UHMWPE powder and an organic antistat at high pressure and elevated temperature. The organic antistat is preferably a non-ionic solid which has been cryogenically ground to fine particle size.

An antistatic UHMWPE consolidated product having a resistivity of less than 1·1011 Ω/square, comprising UHMWPE and at least one organic antistat, said organic antistat, when blended with UHMWPE powder and subsequently consolidated, providing a substantially white UHMWPE product in the absence of dyes and pigments.
