<p>This liquid-crystal display, which can display images on a transparent background, uses an architecture in which an edge backlight is provided on one side of a panel and also uses field-sequential color without causing color mixing. A source bus line and a gate bus line are driven such that video data is written to each pixel capacitance during the first half (T1) of each field and black is written to each pixel capacitance during the second half (T2) of each field. The backlight is provided along the bottom of the liquid-crystal panel only. The point (a third point in time) at which the writing of black is started in one field of a single frame and the point (a first point in time) at which the backlight is turned on in the next field are set such that the length of time from said third point in time to said first point in time is longer than a liquid-crystal response time.</p> |
