The present invention relates to an air conditioner. The air conditioner according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a compressor for compressing and discharging a refrigerant; an outdoor heat exchanger for heat-exchanging the refrigerant with the outdoor air; an indoor heat exchanger for heat-exchanging the refrigerant with the indoor air; a leakage sensor unit prepared on at least one side of either the indoor heat exchanger or the outdoor heat exchanger to sense the leakage of the refrigerant leaking into the interior space; and a control unit for controlling the operation of the compressor. The control unit repetitively turns on or off the operation of the compressor when the degree of refrigerant leakage sensed by the refrigerant leakage sensor unit reaches a first level.
