The method for operating a multi-cylinder piston engine, in which engine each cylinder (10) is provided with a reciprocating piston (14) and a pre-combustion chamber (2), comprises the steps of introducing gaseous fuel into an intake duct (1) of the engine, injecting liquid pilot fuel into the pre-combustion chamber (2), igniting the liquid pilot fuel by means of compression by the piston (14), and utilizing the combustion of the liquid fuel for igniting the gaseous fuel. Exhaust gas is introduced into the pre-combustion chamber (2) before the injection of the liquid pilot fuel. |
