The method involves joining two body parts in a material fit by a material-fit joining method e.g. friction welding method, which is successfully carried out at ambient pressure. A medium (2) e.g. water, in a solid or semi-solid state is placed in a hollow chamber parts of the body parts prior to carrying out the material-fit joining. The medium is placed together with a receiving device, which contains or retains the medium in the solid or semi-solid state, and the material-fit joining is subsequently carried out, where the medium escapes from the receiving device in a liquid or gaseous form. An independent claim is also included for a piston rod.
