<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reverse rotation of liquid crystal molecules effectively.SOLUTION: An active matrix liquid crystal display device of lateral electric field system performs display by rotating the molecular axis of a liquid crystal layer in a plane parallel to a first substrate using an electric field applied between a pixel electrode and a common electrode and substantially parallel to a surface of the first substrate. On a display area in which a pixel electrode 2609 and a common electrode 2610 are formed in an interdigital shape and substantially parallel to one another, an end part of the bent pixel electrode 2609 protrudes toward the common electrode 2610 and is increased in width so that a gap between a side of the pixel electrode as a bent inner surface and the common electrode 2610 opposite thereto is reduced, and the common electrode 2610 opposite to the end part of the pixel electrode 2609 is bent so as to coincide with a shape of the part increased in width, in order to prevent the molecular axis of the liquid crystal layer from reversely rotating. A part or the whole of the end part of the pixel electrode 2609 is overlapped on a common signal wire 2602, and the two common signal wires 2602 on respective areas are electrically connected to each other.</p> |
