This scintillator is provided, on at least one principal surface of a substrate, with a light-emitting layer for emitting light in response to impinging radiation. The light-emitting layer includes a zinc oxide single crystal in which the m-plane constitutes the light-emitting face, the zinc oxide single crystal constituting the light-emitting layer being doped with the element sulfur. This scintillator is provided to a radiation detector, a radiological inspection device, or anα-ray detector.
