PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide use of a new mimotope eliciting an immune response directed against &bgr;-amyloid and a new antibody recognizing the mimotope and A&bgr; peptide in the prevention, treatment and diagnosis of diseases associated with &bgr;-amyloid formation and/or aggregation.SOLUTION: A mimotope is a compound comprising a peptide having an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of SHQRLWF(C), HMRMYFE(C) and HQKMIF(C). The mimotope induces the in vivo formation of antibodies directed to non truncated A&bgr;1-40/42, and N-terminally truncated forms A&bgr;pE3, A&bgr;3-40/42, A&bgr;11-40/42, A&bgr;E11-40/42 and A&bgr;14-40/42 without interfering with physiological functions of amyloid precursor protein (APP) signalling. |
