PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochromic element capable of easily performing gradation control.SOLUTION: An electrochromic element includes: a pair of electrodes; an electrochromic layer which is provided between the pair of electrodes and has an electrolyte and an electrochromic material; and a spacer surrounding a periphery of the electrochromic layer. The electrochromic element has a change mechanism for changing a thickness of the electrochromic layer. The change mechanism is provided on a transparent substrate formed at the outside of at least one electrode, and changes a distance between the pair of electrodes by means of the change mechanism, to thereby change the thickness of the electrochromic layer. |
