PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circular knitting machine for hosiery or the like which ensures high precision in the actuation of needles even in a state where actuation speed is high and vibration is present.SOLUTION: A double cylinder circular knitting machine for hosiery or the like includes: lower and upper needle cylinders; axial slots 3; and a needle actuation element 5 accommodated in each axial slot. The needle actuation element includes at least one connecting element 6 having a movable heel 6a. The movable heel is radially extracted from the axial slot by the oscillation of the connecting element on the radial plane of a needle cylinder 2 and engages to connecting element actuation cams facing the lateral surface of the needle cylinder. At least one extraction cam or retraction cam provided in the connecting element actuation cams has a portion whose profile is inclined with respect to an ideal plane perpendicular to the axis of the needle cylinder. Extraction means 39 for extracting the movable heel of the connecting element keep the movable heel in an extracted position over the entire extension of the portion having the inclined profile of the extraction cam or retraction cam.
