In the present invention, a polarization division multiplexing optical communication reception device is provided with the following: a signal quality fluctuation imparting means for imparting signal quality fluctuations to two optical signals that were multiplexed; and a signal quality monitoring means for, on the basis of the results of a comparison between the signal quality of each of the two optical signals, specifying the two optical signals after polarization and division of the two optical signals to which signal quality fluctuations were imparted and which were multiplexed. Due to the foregoing, degradation of the transmission characteristics of polarized multiplexed signals is suppressed and high-reliability transmission is achieved. |
