The sensor (10) has a sensing element (12) including a gas-side end portion (14) in longitudinal extension direction (16) protruding from a sensor housing. The gas-side end portion surrounds a protective tube (18), which is arranged partially asymmetrically with respect to the longitudinal extension direction of the sensing element. The protective tube is designed for allowing contact of the sensing element with the measurement gas. The measurement gas experiences a deflection (40) before contacting the sensing element. The protective tube includes a concave portion (22) and an aperture (24).
