PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of predicting the time of expiration of the life of a photoreceptor, the life being indicated to be expired by the occurrence of afterimage.SOLUTION: Life determination means 9 of a photoreceptor 1 comprises: post-exposure potential measuring means 8; potential measuring means 8 for performing charging processing to a surface part of the photoreceptor that has passed through a transfer area to which bias is applied by transfer means 5 satisfying first conditions and measuring post-exposure potential VL1, and performing charging processing to a surface part of the photoreceptor that has passed through a transfer area to which bias is applied by the transfer means 5 satisfying second conditions different from the first conditions in magnitude of a current value or a voltage value that is applied to the surface of the photoreceptor per unit area while the surface passes through the transfer area and measuring post-exposure potential VL2; potential comparison value calculating means for calculating a comparison value of the VL1 with the VL2; and determination means for determining whether or not the life of the photoreceptor 1 is expired on the basis of the comparison value. |
