The present invention relates to a method and a network device for security authentication of a mobile communication system. The method comprises: a home subscriber server (HSS) receiving a request for a special authentication vector sent by a proxy server, wherein the request for a special authentication vector is sent by the proxy server after receiving a request for an authentication vector sent by a serving GPRS support node (SGSN) (S110); the HSS generating a special authentication vector according to the request for a special authentication vector (S120); and the HSS sending the special authentication vector to the proxy server, so that the proxy server, a network element of an access network, the SGSN, and a long term evolution (LTE) user equipment (UE) complete security authentication (S130). The present invention enables an LTE UE to use a 2G/3G network. |
