A metallic shaping plate located in the interior housing of a wireless device is disclosed. The metallic shaping plate may influence a radiation pattern being generated by a horizontal antenna array. The result may be an increase in the gain of the array.

1. An wireless device comprising:
an antenna array including a plurality of antenna elements, wherein two or more of the plurality of antenna elements are selectively coupled to a radio frequency feed port, wherein at least two of the plurality of antenna elements generate an omnidirectional radiation pattern; a housing coupled to the interior of the device and enclosing the antenna array; and a plurality of metallic shaping plates, wherein each of the shaping plates has a different configuration, and wherein the shaping plates cause a change in the omnidirectional radiation pattern generated by at least two of the plurality of antenna elements.
