Provided is a catalytic converter that makes effective use of all of the constituent catalyst, resulting in high exhaust-gas purification performance. Said catalytic converter (10) comprises noble-metal catalyst layers (2A, 2B) formed, in the lengthwise direction of a cell-structured substrate (1) through which a gas circulates, on the cell walls of said substrate (1). The substrate (1) comprises a central region (1A) that has a relatively high cell density and a peripheral region (1B) that has a relatively low cell density, and the catalyst layer (2B) in the peripheral region (1B) is longer in the lengthwise direction than the catalyst layer (2A) in the central region (1A). |
