The device has a special adapter connected with the vein in-dwelling catheter or a central venous catheter. The injected fluid flows through the adapter. The flow changes the functional state of the adapter and thus a signal is transmitted to a receiving device. The time of the transmission is recorded by a central device or from the receiving device. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for data transmission of a used syringe to a receiving device; (2) a method for measuring the amount of medication in a syringe; and (3) a method for fully automated comprehensive documentation of intravenous injections.
