<p>A container (10) comprises a hollow body portion (12), a hinged lid member (14) pivotally attached to the body portion (12), an automatic latch assembly (20) fixed to the body portion (12) or the lid member (14), and a locking strap (22) provided with an engagement member. The latch assembly (20) comprises a casing (30) and a lock bolt (38) reciprocating between locked and unlocked positions. The lock bolt (38) engages the engagement member of the locking strap (22) in the locked position and is disengaged from the engagement member in the unlocked position. The latch assembly (20) further comprises an actuator (34) for moving the lock bolt (38) out of engagement with the engagement member, a signal receiver (62) for receiving a wireless signal or an accelerometer (262) for monitoring acceleration of the container, and an electronic control module (60) electrically connected to the signal receiver (62) or the accelerometer (262) for controlling the operation of the actuator (34) in response to the wireless signal or data from the accelerometer (262).</p> |
