The battery module (60) has two battery cells (50) that are arranged with a battery cell housing (40) and a degassing element (30) that is arranged within the battery cell housing and adapted to discharge flue gases in the presence of predetermined gas pressure of the battery cell within the respective battery cell. An air-tight degassing channel (20) is arranged over the degassing elements of the battery cells. A closure flap (10) is arranged inside the degassing channel between the degassing elements and divides the degassing channel. An independent claim is included for a motor car.
