PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating a subject who has chronic tissue ischemia.SOLUTION: The method has a step of administering to a subject a pharmaceutical composition comprising inorganic nitrite or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof for a time and in an amount sufficient to stimulate blood vessel growth in the ischemic tissue. The subject may be diagnosed as having a symptom of disease, for example, a peripheral arterial disease, diabetes, atherosclerosis, or defective wound healing, and the like, resulting in persistent or recurring restriction of blood supply to the tissue. The method can have a step of specifying a suitable subject. |
