The invention relates to an inking unit of a gravure printing machine comprising a gravure printing cylinder and an inking device inking the gravure printing cylinder with an ink. In order to simplify the proofing process of a gravure printing machine, the inking unit is removed from said machine in such a manner that said inking unit remains in a ready-to-print state.
