Class 94(ii) Comprises apparatus for gumming the end 15, Fig. 4, of a flat tubular blank BT and folding it over to form the bag bottom. The blank BT, Fig. 1, is fed from conveyer tapes 12, between the adhesive-applicator roll 1 and anvil roller 2 so that an adhesive-transfer pad 16, registers with the blank end. The roller 2 rotates in a water bath 9 and is scraped by the rubber doctor blade 10. The end of the blank remains adhered to the pad 16 and is also held by one of the suction nozzles 42a to be carried towards the bottom end fold-forming gripper cylinder 3. When a tucker blade 18 just behind the pad 16 registers with the space between a nipper bar 24 and anvil block 25, on the gripper cylinder 3, cam means 39 cause the blade to move outwards and tuck a fold of the blank between the bar 24 and block 25. The bar 24 thereafter is moved by cam means 29 to nip the fold line and initiate the end folding which is completed when the end of the blank is stripped from the pad 16. The folded end is then drawn between the ironing tapes 28 and the surface of cylinder 3. The gripper mechanism is released by the cam 29 when the completed bag reaches the stack of bags lying against the stacker plate 35. Details of the cam mechanism and suction valves associated with the supply to nozzles 42a are described, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown). |
