<p>When a client requests first media data from a server, the server identifies second media to be sent to the client without the additional media having been requested. In response to the request, the server transmits the first media data and at least one announcement message identifying the second media data. The server then makes ordering transmission proposals 701 defining the order of transmission for the second media data, for which client devices may make update requests 705 for matching their streaming constraints. Embodiments of the invention provide optimization in the data exchanges between servers and clients. May be used in Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) networks using Media Presentation Description (MDP) files.</p> |
