<p>An apparatus for cleaning a floor surface comprises a housing 11 including a source of suction, an inlet for receiving dirty air and a chamber for receiving dirt. A user graspable handle 16 is provided for permitting a user to manoeuvre the apparatus over the floor surface during use, with the handle 16 including a battery for providing power to the source of suction and a first connection formation (20, fig 4) releasably connectable to a second connection (22, fig 2) formation on the housing 11, wherein the handle 16, preferably remote from its connection to the housing 11, includes a user operable electrically powered device 24, such as a lamp or handheld cleaner. The first (20, fig 4) and second (22, fig 2) connection formations may include electrical contacts. The apparatus can include a floor tool 12 that is laterally moveable between first and second conditions relative to the housing 11. The first and second conditions can be retracted and extended positions.</p> |
