PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope capable of securing the visual field of a wide range. SOLUTION: The endoscope includes: a light source 3 for irradiating the periphery of the endoscope 1 with light; a wide angle lens 6 provided on the distal end part of the endoscope 3; a transmission unit (side wall) 10 provided on the side wall of the distal end part, for transmitting at least external light from the side part; a mirror 7 provided inside the distal end part, in the shape of a hyperboloid or a paraboloid reflecting the external light made incident from the side wall 10; an imaging element 9 capable of capturing respective subject images formed on the basis of the external light which has passed through the wide angle lens 6 and the mirror 7; and image formation means 14 for forming a spherical image having the image information outside a system on the surface of a spherical body from the respective subject images captured by the imaging element 9.
