PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control system in which fuel consumption performance can be improved properly. SOLUTION: A vehicle control system 1 includes: an internal combustion engine 4; a power transmission device 5; and a control device 9 which controls the internal combustion engine 4 and the power transmission device 5 based on a traveling speed of a vehicle 2 and a gradient of a traveling road on which the vehicle 2 travels and switches first inertia travel control and second inertia travel control. If the traveling speed of the vehicle 2 is equal to or lower than a predetermined velocity and the gradient of the traveling road when an up gradient is defined positive and a down gradient is defined as negative, is a gradient of such a magnitude that the vehicle 2 is decelerated when the first inertia travel control is executed and the vehicle 2 is accelerated with acceleration greater than predetermined acceleration when the second inertia travel control is executed, the control device 9 inhibits the second inertia travel control and permits the first inertia travel control.
