Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to techniques for carrier preconfiguration for monitoring for transmissions of downlink control information (DCI), for example, conveyed in physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) transmissions utilizing multiple carriers. The methods and apparatuses described herein may be applied in both frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) systems.

1. A method for wireless communications, comprising:
determining a preconfiguration indicating which, of one or more component carriers, are used to transmit downlink control channel information (DCI) to at least one user equipment (UE) in a certain predetermined set of subframes; signaling the preconfiguration to the UE; and transmitting DCI to the UE in the certain predetermined set of subframes, utilizing one or more component carriers in accordance with the preconfiguration.
