Duplicate MAC address detection

Various systems and methods for detecting media access control (MAC) address conflicts are described herein. An indication to create a virtual machine on the host device is received at a host device of a plurality of host devices. A MAC address to assign to the virtual machine is identified, and a message is transmitted to at least one of the plurality of host devices, with the message including the identified MAC address. The MAC address is assigned to the virtual machine in the absence of a response from the at least one of the plurality of host devices indicating a potential conflict with the MAC address.

1. A non-transitory machine-readable medium comprising instructions for detecting media access control (MAC) address conflicts, the instructions when executed on a computing device, cause the computing device to:
receive at a host device of a plurality of host devices, an indication to assign a MAC address to a virtual machine on the host device; identify a candidate MAC address to assign to the virtual machine; transmit a message to at least one of the plurality of host devices, the message including the candidate MAC address; and assign the candidate MAC address to the virtual machine in the absence of a response from the at least one of the plurality of host devices indicating a potential conflict with the candidate MAC address.
