PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aromatic glycidyl ether compound having good optical properties and high toughness.SOLUTION: An epoxy resin is obtained by reacting 1-[2-(p-phenol)propane-2-yl]-4-[1,1-bis(p-phenol)ethanyl]benzene and an epihalohydrin in an alcohol having 1-5 carbon atoms, and is characterized in that 1-20% by area (GPC measurement) of a triglycidyl ether of the epoxy resin is an alcohol adduct.
