PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a distance by which an image reading unit protrudes from the installation area of an apparatus body when a top cover is opened, so as to increase the degree of freedom of the installation space of an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus including a top cover 10 disposed on an upper part of an image forming unit 100 that is openable/closable around a fulcrum 12, and an image reading unit 200 disposed on an upper part of the top cover 10, the image reading unit 200 can be slid in a lateral direction. When the top cover 10 is opened, the image reading unit 200 is slid with a compression spring 23 in a direction to separate from the fulcrum 12 with respect to the top cover 10. When the top cover 10 is closed, a wire 24 is drawn in on the image reading unit 200 side with a guide pulley 25 attached to a support arm 13 formed integrally with the top cover 10, so as to slide the image reading unit 200 in a direction to approach the fulcrum 12 with respect to the top cover 10. |
