PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a reduction in charging performance over time of a charging member.SOLUTION: A charging device 30 includes a charging roll 32, and a cleaning member 34 in which an elastic layer 34B is wound spirally around a shaft 34A. In the charging device 30, when a perimeter of the charging roll 32 is a[mm] and its contact perimeter is b[mm], a and b satisfy b<0.4a-3.4, b>0.4a-15.7, and b≥2. This configuration suppresses difficulty in rotation of the charging roll 32, eliminates the need to rotate the charging roll 32 more than necessary in order to clean an outer peripheral surface of the charging roll 32, and makes the cleaning member 34 to rotate in association with the rotation of the charging roll 32. Thus, in the charging device 30, a cleaning state of the charging roll 32 can be maintained over time, and a reduction in charging performance of the charging roll 32 can be suppressed. |
