PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the level of occurrence of image deletion, and adequately recover from the image deletion.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: an image forming unit that forms a toner image on a photoreceptor drum; a density sensor for detecting the density of the toner image formed on the photoreceptor drum; and a control unit that determines a state of the surface of the photoreceptor drum from a detection result of the density sensor. The control unit forms, on the surface of the photoreceptor drum, a first pattern image, and a second pattern image in which the density changes differently from the density of the first pattern image when image deletion occurs, detects the densities of the first and second pattern images formed on the surface of the photoreceptor drum with the density sensor, and determines a state of the surface of the photoreceptor drum on the basis of a detection result. |
