PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device that selects a distance measuring area of a phase difference AF optimum for a subject of interest, and enables a detection of a focus point with accuracy.SOLUTION: The imaging device includes: an image pickup element 21 that uses a part of image pickup elements as a focus detection pixel in a phase difference method; a face detection section 22a that detects a position of a subject of interest such as a face and the like; an AF distance measuring point setting section 33 that sets a plurality of distance measuring points on the basis of the position of the subject of interest; a defocus amount calculation section/reliability determination section 37 that calculates a plurality of amounts of defocus on the basis of an output of the focus detection pixel corresponding to the plurality of distance measuring points, and determines reliability of the calculated amount of defocus; a distance measuring area priority order setting section 35 that determines priority order of the set distance measuring point; and a distance measuring point determination section 38 that selects the distance measuring point from the plurality of distance measuring points set on the basis of the priority order of the distance measuring point and the reliability of the amount of defocus. |
