A drive arrangement for a mobile shelving system wherein each shelving bay (12) can be moved horizontally with respect to one another to allow access to a single shelving bay. Characterised in that the drive mechanism (20) uses a non-load supporting belt (27) which engages directly with a drive surface (18) to move each shelving bay. The belt is driven by an actuator (26), which may be a manual crank or an electric motor, and passes around a drive wheel (28) adjacent to the drive surface (18), which engages the belt (27) with the drive surface (18) allowing frictional contact between the belt and drive surface, which moves the shelving bay relative to the drive surface (track). The belt may have a toothed inner surface and a smooth outer surface.
