The method involves recording a temperature of a traction battery (30) i.e. lithium-ion battery, and a temperature of an internal combustion engine (2) i.e. diesel engine, of a hybrid vehicle. A discharge current of the battery is provided into a preheating plug (20) at the time of preparing the engine for starting and during the time of heating of the battery. A temperature sensor is arranged for detecting the temperature of the engine. The plug is connected directly to the battery. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a controller (2) a hybrid vehicle.
