Provided are: a positive electrode for lithium ion secondary batteries, which has excellent charge/discharge capacity and excellent cycle characteristics at high potentials; and a lithium ion secondary battery. This positive electrode for lithium ion secondary batteries is characterized by comprising: a collector; a positive electrode active material layer that is formed on the surface of the collector and contains a positive electrode active material and a binder; and a coating layer that is formed on at least a part of the surface of the positive electrode active material layer and has a specific resistance of more than 1.0 × 10-3 &OHgr;cm but 1.0 × 103 &OHgr;cm or less.
